The
techniques used by Patrick Horton for divining and
defining story in general are particularly effective
for adaptations. Just as Patrick's initial work with
any client is not to focus on the surface plot but
what the client is really after and is revealed
through the unfolding story, adaptations can find
their best translation in another medium not by
literal and lifeless transcription but through
capturing and giving re-expression to essences.
All
of the steps and techniques referenced above also are
particularly important here in assuring that what is
most moving and important to the contracting clients
is the focus and life force of what is captured and
put on the page in a way that is then effectively put
on the screen.
The
initial steps for exploring a given project would be
the same as for original screenplays above, with
additional compensation for reading time. The same
provisos also apply. Potential clients not interested
in these steps for assuring clarity in client
expectations and for exploring the story potential
need not make contact.
