 Script & Story Breakdowns

[ Breakdowns ] Development ] Facilitation ]

This particular service came into being in working specifically with actors, directors, and producers who bring to their projects a great facility to do their part if the script is ready but who may not be able to identify or adequately address problems in scripts that are lacking. It also addresses how to clarify and communicate their wants effectively with writers who do not fully understand their needs or are not reaching project potential on their own..

It begins with reading a completed or in progress script/manuscript or strategic plan / mission statement to break it down and first to see what is there and not there, and then proceeds to determine what could be brought to life and/or improved. It is particularly useful for actors, directors, producers, and development executives who may be great at executing a solid script or project plan, but may not be as adept at determining what is wrong or missing with a less than stellar work.

This approach not only identifies what is weak or missing, but divines what is possible and how to get there in a language that addresses the respective needs of the different collaborators involved. This vastly exceeds what is normally offered by standard script analysts and much more thoroughly addresses what is there and not there on the page in the project's potential for translating into viable performance, product, and marketing potential. When substantial changes are needed, they are identified in detail along with guidance on how to get there.

"Like Stanislavski's 'System,' Dr. Horton has pioneered a method for creating truthful work -- for those whose performance is on the page. The screenwriting craft has its 'An Actor Prepares'."
